How It Works

Being a Provider

If you would like to provide free resources to your community, click on "Open a Store" to sign up. All you need is a name, a name for your store, and a valid email address.

Resources Required

In order to serve people with the Sans Lucre method, you will need a fixed location with a computer, QR scanner, printer, and internet connection. You will also need the funds to purchase the new products to distribute.
Sans Lucre is not to be used for used products.
When you create your store, you will be given a QR code. To log into your store, you will scan your QR code on the main page, then enter the email address you registered with, and you will be emailed a 6-digit code to complete the secure sign in.
You will need to be logged into your store to take orders. When a customer comes in, you can create a new account for them, or scan their QR code to pull up their account.

Funding

The per-customer cost is kept as low as possible by having a limited set of product types for the most needy in the community and ordering in bulk and taking advantage of tax savings and whatnot. Speak with the people in your community who are not struggling and ask them to set aside up to 10% of their tax home pay into a simple investment account using an app such as Robinhood or Webull. Putting money into index funds will allow the money to grow with limited risk. As orders come in, ask the people in your community to donate some of the money they have set aside to stock the storehouse and fill orders. Consumables such as toiletries are far cheaper than durable goods.

Guidelines

  • No Markup: All money collected to order goods must be used to order goods. No money donated to pay for the needs of the community may be used for "overhead" costs. Sans Lucre is intended to be run in partnership with existing community services.
  • No Used Products: All products must be new when handed to the customer. If the community would like to donate used goods, those items need to be separate of the items ordered through the Sans Lucre method.
  • No Profit: Sans Lucre does not provide a means to produce money. Only a means to distribute quality new goods to those most in need in your local community.
  • Making it a Full Time Job You may take 10% of donated funds ONLY when there is enough to pay your salary which is not to exceed $60,000 per year. For example, if you want to make $60,000 in a year for serving your community, you must take in $600,000 in donated funds before you can cut yourself a check. Sans Lucre is intended to be part-time charity.
  • Volunteers You may not bring in volunteers to help you if you are paying yourself. You may only ask for volunteer help from people living in your house if you are being paid. You may not expect others to do unpaid labor if your labor is paid for.
